Winx will be seeking her twentieth-consecutive win when she takes her place in the George Main Stakes field, but she has been pushed to the line in each of her two starts this time and may need to improve upon returning to Group 1 company for the first time this season.

Returning to the paddock after posting a dominant win in the Group 1 Queen Elizabeth Stakes (2000m) on Day 2 of The Championships, Winx missed the start in the Group 2 Warwick Stakes (1400m) first-up this time, but used the entire length of the Randwick straight to catch and pip stable mate Foxplay on the line.

Allowing Red Excitement a huge lead in the Group 2 Chelmsford Stakes (1600m) a fortnight ago, Winx again required the entire straight to overcome the noted stayer in the final strides of the race.

A twelve-time winner at the highest level, Winx will relish another run at a mile and should simply prove too difficult to beat in this George Main Stakes 2017.

Le Romain and Happy Clapper have both returned to racing in typically smart form this time and loom as Winx’s biggest threats in early 2017 George Main Stakes betting markets; albeit both at double-figure odds.

A three-time Group 1 winner, Le Romain arguably found career-best form through the recent Autumn Carnival and beat Chautauqua on the line in the Group 1 Canterbury Stakes (1300m) most notably.

Resuming for a close second behind stable mate Invincible Gem in the Group 2 Missile Stakes (1200m) on August 5th, the Hard Spun gelding was last seen finishing fifth in the talent-rich Group 1 Memsie Stakes (1400m) a fortnight ago.

Happy Clapper is yet to win a race at the highest level, but he has been a standout amongst Group 1 company for several seasons and should be right in the finish of the George Main Stakes.

Second in the Group 1 Doncaster Mile (1600m) for the second-consecutive year in April, Happy Clapper resumed for an impressive win in the Group 2 Tramway Stakes (1400m) a fortnight ago and will only improve into this race.

The 2017 George Main Stakes field and barrier draw is due to be completed and released by midday, Wednesday.
